Spring 2025 students showing off their Global UGRAD t-shirts on CMU’s campus

Central Methodist University (CMU) hosted 10 Global UGRAD students across the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters. Dong Han, international admissions officer, kindly took the time to answer questions about UGRAD’s impact and life on the Fayette, Missouri campus.

How have Global UGRADs impacted your campus and local community?

The impact of Global UGRAD students on CMU and the surrounding community has been profound. They are a living embodiment of the CMU mission to foster a diverse and caring community of lifelong learners. These students are known for their strong academic performance, respectful behavior, and consistent involvement in campus life. They contribute thoughtfully to class discussions and bring diverse perspectives that enrich the learning experience for everyone. Through their participation in cultural events, service activities, and everyday interactions, UGRAD students help foster a more globally aware and inclusive campus environment. Faculty, staff, students, and community members alike have recognized and appreciated the positive spirit and cultural value that these students bring to Central Methodist University.

What is a positive takeaway or memorable story you can share from your work with Global UGRADs?

Working with Global UGRAD students has been a rewarding experience, both for the students and for CMU. These students bring an incredible level of enthusiasm and commitment to their time in the United States. They take academics seriously and regularly impress faculty and peers with their presentations. Outside the classroom, they are eager to explore new places, participate in campus activities, and connect with others. Perhaps most inspiring is their pride in representing their home countries and cultures. Their willingness to engage and share has left a lasting impression—so much so that members of the CMU and local community are now planning visits to see former UGRAD students abroad. Their presence is a testament to the positive impact short-term exchange students can make in a brief period of time, and when asked, the students say CMU has made an impact on them, too. They love getting a taste of a different university environment – one with a high degree of school spirit and a commitment to learning and engaging through innovative technology.

World Learning appreciates its partnership with CMU and its support of Global UGRAD students. Thank you, Dong!
