In October, Amy Broome (Global UGRAD Senior Program Officer) traveled to Evansville, Indiana to visit the University of Southern Indiana (USI). During her visit, she met with the amazing staff at the Center for International Programs who support the Global UGRAD students each semester, including the four students on campus for the fall 2023 semester.
USI is located on a large property (1,400 acres!) and is a 10-15 minute drive from the quaint town of Evansville, Indiana. Students have lots of opportunities at their fingertips, whether taking the bus to town to explore or participating in the many events frequently offered by USI’s student organizations. The student population is approximately 9,300 and includes many local and regional students. The university is also well-connected with the Evansville community, which provides students with many opportunities for experiential and hands-on learning. USI is a great place for Global UGRAD students to gain a true Midwest experience – and to share their cultures with USI students who benefit from learning about other cultures.
Global UGRAD students at USI are directly supported by Dr. Emilija “Emi” Zlatkovska (Executive Director of International Programs and Services) and Hunter Baird (Program Advisor), as well as many other dedicated staff in the Center for International Programs. The students on campus this semester all enjoy their classes and professors, and are very pleased with the level of support offered by staff at the Center for International Programs and other resources on campus. USI values the well-being of all of its students and goes above and beyond to support its Global UGRADs. This year the students had the option to visit a pumpkin patch to celebrate fall (American style!) and even traveled to Chicago for Thanksgiving with the iClub (international club).
Many thanks to USI for being an extraordinary host campus for Global UGRAD students – and staff!
