Alumni Update: Tunisian UGRAD Alum, Wassim

WassimOnce UGRAD alum Wassim Zoghlami returned to Tunisia, he was part of a group that went on to win a grant through the Department of State’s Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF). Along with the other Tunisian UGRADs (Salma, Hani, Sabrine, Nedra, and Helmi), he founded the Tunisian Center for Civic Engagement which aims to bridge the gap between Tunisian youth in educational institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations and focuses on youth volunteering and employment. Wassim also founded WhatsIn, a healthcare startup and won the “Entrepreneur Spirit Award” as a finalist at the GIST techI competition 2014 in Marrakesh.

As a digital activist, Wassim is currently based in Berlin working on a counter-terrorism data mining project called DataShield. The project attempts to monitor and predict terrorist attacks based on terrorist activities on social media. Wassim was invited to talk about his work with DataShield  during TEDx Munster and the African Internet Governance Forum in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia.
