Community Service Round-Up

Once you start volunteering, it’s hard to want to stop! This is a sentiment the World Learning staff has heard over and over from Global UGRAD participants this fall. First-semester academic students are required to complete a minimum of twenty service hours, but that has not stopped many from reaching into the 40-50 hour range. One participant said, “It feels good to make a difference,” and plans to continue their service throughout the spring term as well.

Our staff is continually amazed by the dedication and impact of UGRADs in their places of service. Below is a quick snapshot of some of the organizations at which they are lending a hand:

  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
  • Companion Animal Shelter
  • Saginaw City Rescue Mission
  • Dress for Success
  • Minneapolis Adult Education Center
  • Equestrian Bridges
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Bellingham Senior Activity Center
  • Latino Student Fund Tutoring
  • Children’s Discovery Museum
  • Student Council for Exceptional Children – Autism Run/Walk
  • Laramie Soup Kitchen

Last year, Global UGRAD participants with World Learning logged 4,872 community service hours! We are excited to tally the hours for this year and anticipate that our students will exceed the 5,000 hour mark!
