Global UGRAD Participant Wins at the Hackathon

My name is Javanshir Huseynli. I am a Global UGRAD scholarship recipient from Azerbaijan, and I’m currently studying Computer Science Engineering at the University of Alabama. In Azerbaijan, I am working towards an undergraduate degree in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering.

The University of Alabama organized a Local Hack Day competition. I won the Best Solo Hack prize at the competition on December 1, 2018. The Local Hack Day was hosted by GitHub and the UA Association for Computer Machinery. Hackathon participants competed based on their programming and computer science skills. In this competition, they were asked to develop and finish their ideas within 12 hours.

I worked from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. to develop a platform that allows travelers to connect with local guides (e.g., students). I was one of 40 participants in the competition who submitted their work to be judged. As a reward for the hard work, I won an Amazon Echo Dot.
