The fall semester Global UGRAD participants had the opportunity to watch the debates, follow the election cycle, and watch the votes come in on November 8th, 2016.
At Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho, students watched the election day coverage with a local congressman. Another student wrote, “Being an aspiring political journalist, it feels so awesome to be given the ‘front row seats to U.S politics’.” Others volunteered to help “get out the vote” on campus. Nominee Hillary Clinton even visited Grand Valley State University, a Global UGRAD host institution.
In just a few days, the spring semester participants will have the chance to see the results of that election come to pass as we inaugurate the 45th President of the United States of America. What a time to be in the U.S.!
To outgoing President Obama, we are grateful that your administration prioritized the creation of an inclusive society and the strengthening of ties between the U.S. and other countries. That’s precisely what the Global UGRAD aims to do. As you said, “Yes we can. Yes we did.” Yes we will!
