Let the Games Begin!

Roya's Basketball teamJust as memories of an entertaining Super Bowl fade, the squeaks of sneakers on the basketball court are heard across the country. It’s March and that can only mean one thing, it’s time for March Madness!

With college basketball season underway, you may be sensing the momentum on campus. We, at World Learning, are feeling it too. There’s nothing quite like the loyalty alumni feel to their alma maters. I will always be a proud Husky.

March Madness is a college basketball tournament of giant proportions. Tip-off is March 19th and the games run through April 8th when a National Champion for men is crowned and April 9th when the women’s champion is crowned. What makes this tournament so dramatic is that it’s single-elimination. It’s simple; if you lose, you’re out. There are no second chances.

The best part of March Madness is that you don’t have to wear a jersey to be involved! Americans love trying their luck at “bracketology.”  In a few weeks, brackets will be posted online (check ESPN, CNNSI, or other sports/news websites) and we get to predict winners at each level of play. Even President Obama makes his picks!  Check out last year’s bracket results for the men’s tournament.

We at World Learning are making our picks; join us! Print out a bracket when it’s posted on “Selection Sunday” – March 17th – and fill it out according to who you think will win each game. The women’s bracket will be posted, March 18th.

Who will be the 2013 National Champions? Last year it was the University of Kentucky for men and Baylor University for women.
